Concept Mapping

It has been an interesting experience playing around with the concept map tool. As a social learner, I felt that this tool wasn't as useful for me as others I have experimented with previously. I was struggling with recalling the knowledge I have learnt throughout topic one and putting it into this type of map. I also found that I was taking a lot of time mucking around with the lay out and trying to get it to not over lap.

Although I didn't personally find this tool very effective, many other people have really enjoyed using it. It would be a great tool to use in the classroom because it is a very efficent way for students to organise their thoughts and knowledge and a great graphic organiser for them to look back on for a particular topic.

I would enjoy getting feedback from you so I can reflect on how I could improve my skills and usefullness for this tool :)

Memletic Learning Styles Test

After taking the Memletic Learning Styles test, I discovered that my prefered learning style is the Social (interpersonal) learning style. I really enjoyed taking this quiz because it gave me a short time period where I could reflect purely on me as a learner. Some times we get so caught up in trying to make deadlines and get things done that we forget to stop and think 'maybe if I cater for my suited learning style, it will help me to get this completed more efficient and easier'.

I wasn't really suprised to find that I am a social learner because I have always enjoyed working in groups and discussing different topics with others. I love being around people and can't stand it when I have to be by myself (even being home alone at night before I go to sleep :)). I was suprised that my visual learning score was so low because I do find myself using colours and pictures to help connect with my learning at times.

It is important to consider that in a traditional classroom of 25 students, there will be a very wide range of learners who all hold different learning styles. Because of this it is important for me, as a learning manager, to build my skills in all areas of learning so I can develop lessons which will be effect for each learner. I believe that getting the class to complete a simular test at the start of the year is vital because as an LM, I must know how each student prefers to learn to successfully promote learning.

I must admit that as a 21st century future LM, I consider my current knowledge of ICT's fairly poor. By taking this course, I am excited to learn different skills and tools which will enhance my ability to cater to students in my future classrooms, especially because their life styles are very 'technology- based' orientated.

I look forward to hearing about your test results and how you feel about the test.

Yours Kindly,
Emma Pfingst.

Welcome

Hi everyone,

My name is Emma Pfingst and I am currently in my second year of teaching at CQUni. We are studying the course 'Managing E-Learning' which explores technological skills which are required in the 21st century. I look forward to sharing and discussing different ICT's which will enhance our skills as Learning Managers.

Yours kindly,
